Rainy and foggy days

Weather in Lund is terrible this November.
Too many rainy and foggy days. The eyesight from my window is not more than 50 metres. Extremely foggy! Everything seems gloomy, deteriorated by the weather.
Hope there will be a sunny day or a snow very soon.

Lund University ranking 76

Studying in Lund University, however, I am really not sure about the ranking of the university in the world. I know there were many rankings of different kinds, though for many times they didn't mean anything. Here I found one ranking list from Newsweek published on its web on August13 – The Top 100 Global Universities.

“We evaluated schools on some of the measures used in well-known rankings published by Shanghai Jiaotong University and the Times of London Higher Education Survey. Fifty percent of the score came from equal parts of three measures used by Shanghai Jiatong: the number of highly-cited researchers in various academic fields, the number of articles published in Nature and Science, and the number of articles listed in the ISI Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities indices. Another 40 percent of the score came from equal parts of four measures used by the Times: the percentage of international faculty, the percentage of international students, citations per faculty member (using ISI data), and the ratio of faculty to students. The final 10 percent came from library holdings (number of volumes)."

Here is the ranking – http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14321230/
1. Harvard University
2. Stanford University
3. Yale University
4. California Institute of Technology
5. University of California at Berkeley

Deep Autumn in Lund, Sweden

Awesome Lund
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Smell the fragrance of Lund Autumn
The sound of rain reminds people that it is coming.
Colorful leafs falling down to the ground along with the wind is like drawing a poetic painting.
Mission started
Start writing my thesis today.
Handed in a few small parts of a chapter to my adviser a few hours ago.
A real tough job. Feel tired now after hours of intensive reading and writing.
No wonder my adviser in Japan emphasized that it's better to spend two months on thesis.
Thesis outline sensible
Good to hear from my adviser that my thesis outline is sensible.
A good news in these dull days. The coming Monday we are going to talk details about my thesis. It is a new step forward.
Hard to imagine the day when I am done with the thesis. Excited, happy,... ... .
Wait and see.
Hand in hand - Trondheim, Norway
Moving on
It's mid November.
Many rains these days. Lund is getting colder and colder.
I just finished talking to my adviser on Monday about my thesis. It's good that I have some idea now. But the bad thing is I can't concentrate myself on writing. Too many other stuff bother me. Really got a lot of things to do and should work harder.
Fortunately, I am kind of confident that I can do it. Good for me.
X'mas is coming!
Still have 6 weeks to go for X'mas.
However, my corridor friends can't wait to warm it up earlier than previous years.
"This year we would like to make it earlier and have more fun," said Stefan, a very nice Swedish guy from Stockholm. He is the one who handles almost all the stuff in our corridor.
Usually, they start counting down four weeks before X'mas by adding one candle each week on a candle plate. So when there are four, X'mas is there.
In the past week we've already had two glogg parties for X'mas. We had cookies and dried grapes. And the heated glogg wine is very much like traditional Chinese medicine to me. It is very sweet.
We also bought X'mas chocolate canlendar, though it is November:) I opened the 6 of Dec and found a Santa on the back of the calendar.
Expecting X'mas!
